7 Gentle & Low-Risk Ways to Reduce Stress & Anxiety

With so much on the go it’s sometimes hard to take time to slow down. That’s why we’ve compiled an easy guide on some of our centre’s most popular treatments to help you unwind and reset. From tranquil float tanks to many forms of gentle massage to clinical hypnotherapy and soothing facials, there’s never been a better reason – you — to block time in your diary to take care and unwind.

1. Remedial Massage

Remedial massage is a targeted and effective form of hands-on therapy that works on parts of the body to ease pain, manage injury and assist in rehabilitation by working on muscles, tendons, ligaments, joints and connective tissue.

Even though remedial massage is used extensively to treat and rehabilitate injury and reduce pain, as a non-invasive low-risk therapy, remedial massage is also successful in treating stress, anxiety and depression. Through relaxation, remedial massage can reduce tension and increase a sense of calm.

With many benefits, remedial massage can help with:

• Anxiety and depression
• Fatigue
• Neck, shoulder and back pain
• Chronic pain
• Headaches
• Injury prevention and rehabilitation, including sports
• Arthritis
• Cancer side effects like lymphoedema and anxiety
• Managing diabetes' side effects
• Supporting addiction rehabilitation

2. Float Tanks

Another gentle and easy form of treatment that helps reduce stress and anxiety is float tank therapy. Originating in the 1950s, floating has enjoyed increased interest and popularity across the world in the last few decades thanks to its therapeutic benefits. Because floating reduces all sensory input into your body it allows your brain to shut out the rest of the world. This sense of calm is likened to a meditative state – which lowers blood pressure, reduces stress and eases anxiety.

Benefits of floating include:

• Reduces stress and anxiety
• Increases relaxation
• Improves sleep
• Aids muscle recovery
• Helps ease migraines and headaches
• Promotes creativity

If you’re new to floating, here’s a bit more on what to expect. At our centre you’ll enjoy your own private state-of-the art float room with an open (no lid) rectangular plunge pool. Our float tanks are shallow, filled with 30cm of dense muscle-soothing magnesium sulphate. Choose what you wear; you can be naked or in a bathing costume as you float weightlessly facing up. Enjoy the tranquillity as your 1-hour session ends with star ceiling lights and calming music. Feel free to shower before and after – especially if you’re about to double the benefits by sauntering into a massage!

3. Reflexology

Reflexology is a specialised massage technique that works on your feet and hands. As an ancient form of healing, reflexology is based on the principle that areas of the feet (or hands) correspond to various organs and systems of the body. By applying pressure to the foot, your therapist accesses and heals the corresponding part of your body.

Benefits of reflexology include:

• Reduces stress and anxiety
• Enhances relaxation
• Reduces pain

4. Clinical Hypnotherapy

Clinical hypnotherapy is a combination of hypnosis and psychological treatment, it is not and never hypnosis alone. By creating new neuropathways in your brain, clinical hypnotherapy works to break old patterns of negative thoughts and behaviour to build new positive outcomes.

With the overall goal being to empower you to become confident, independent and purposeful, hypnotherapy can help to treat:

• Anxiety, including social anxiety
• Depression
• Low self-esteem
• Procrastination
• Weight management
• Phobias
• Addictions (e.g. smoking)

5. Craniosacral Therapy

With its roots in osteopathic medicine, craniosacral therapy uses a light-touch gentle form of massage that focuses on your central nervous system – your brain and spinal cord – the most important system in the human body. Craniosacral therapy works to relieve compression in the head, brain and back to restore your body’s balance.

Some of the many benefits of craniosacral therapy include:

• Helps with anxiety and depression
• Reduces stresses
• Boosts immunity
• Improves sleep quality and insomnia
• Eases headaches and migraines
• Can help with sinus infections, ear infections, and colic in infants
• Helps with constipation and IBS
• Relieves TMJ (temporomandibular joint)

6. Ka Huna Massage

If you’re highly stressed, overworked and want to escape the daily grind, say hello to Ka Huna massage. As a specialised form of massage, this beautiful form of bodywork provides a holistic approach to healing by balancing the body-mind in its physical, emotional and spiritual dimensions.
