Rise & Shine! Some Morning Routines to Kick-Start your Day

Besides breakfast being the most important meal of the day, there are other ways to power body and brain as part of your morning routine. From a good night’s rest to packing in nutrients with healthy food choices to visualising your daily goals, there are many positive and nourishing ways to kick-start your day.

In this blog we zone into some of our centre’s team members’ morning routines which help increase energy levels and build every-day wellness.

Jake’s Morning Routine

Director Jake Mehmet shares his morning routine to energise the body and clear the mind.

• 5:30am: I start my day with a blend of 700ml of water with some greens, celery, spinach, apple cider vinegar, kiwi, Manuka honey, glutamine and a shot of greens powder
• 6:30am: Hot yoga loosens my body and gets my mind cleared for the busy day ahead
• 7:50am: A gym session, then a breakfast smoothie, followed by 50g of protein powder, oats, banana, strawberries, almond milk and one tablespoon of nut butter

It’s very important to fuel your body straight after the gym, nourishing with the right nutrients and eating enough calories so you don’t feel hungry.

I’ve always had an interest in health and fitness and it took me a few years to find what works for me to feel good, train, work and socialise without feeling mentally and physically drained. I also always choose organic foods, products or supplements.

The green blend is great for mornings. Instead of a glass of water, why not pack the water with nutrients and start your day right? I also like to brush my teeth with my left hand in the morning (I’m right-handed). It trains you to be mindfully present.

To be mindfully present, yoga is also great. Meditating for even just 5 minutes a day can work wonders. Another great tip is a float tank. I fell in love with floating about 5 years ago. It was at a time of my professional life that I needed to get relaxed and in the zone. I was amazed by the calmness, presence and control floating brought on. From that time I’ve floated on a weekly basis and it has helped me through many stressful moments.

Gerald’s Morning Routine

Director Gerald Carroll spills the beans on what helps him have a productive start, even on tough days.

• 4am: Wake up and walk the dog for an hour
• 5am: My light breakfast includes a grapefruit, 2 boiled eggs, plus a protein smoothie with banana, greens, peanut butter, coconut water, followed by a strong cup of tea
• During my walk and breakfast I listen to something motivational
• 6am: I head off for work and the day begins
• 3pm: Training

A light breakfast is key. I start the day with a light and healthy breakfast which includes half a grapefruit (full of antioxidants), a spoonful of organic greens in a shake and some probiotics. Then a strong cup of tea!

Movement is essential. It’s a habit to build into your daily lifestyle. I’ve been an avid rugby player since age 8 and still stay active with regular gym and CrossFit. So pick any activity or sport that you enjoy, for both fitness and fun.⠀

Don’t skip meals. After trying intermittent fasting and skipping breakfast, I had low energy levels and low productivity. Now a light but filling breakfast is a must, with probiotics, organic greens and fruits to power you through the day and boost your metabolism.⠀

Most importantly start somewhere and stay motivated, no matter how hard it seems. Once you’ve begun, you’re already half done. Don’t wait for motivation to come to you. Motivation follows the moment you start your journey.

Lynne’s Morning Routine

Centre Manager Lynne Courtney’s morning routine includes gym, a podcast and writing the day’s to-do list.

I like to start my day by going to the gym and doing a spin/weight class. I find this really sets me up for the day. My morning routine includes a coffee and listening to a podcast. My breakfast includes Greek yoghurt, fruit, protein powder, chia seeds and oats. I also sometimes go to the beach to watch the sunrise and go for a swim. I like to read a book on the way in to work as well as write my to-do list for the day.

Linda’s Morning Routine

Remedial/Kahuna Massage Therapist Linda Papagne kick-starts her day with yoga, an ocean swim and taking photos.

For my morning routine, I do yoga, meditation, and also an ocean swim. And I go to the gym. I'm also a photographer and enjoy taking portraits and head shots. I'm currently making my own aromatherapy products to add to my treatments.

From green shakes and float tanks to ocean swims and gym, there are many healthy and energising ways to start the day. We hope you find some of our morning routine tips useful.
